If for some reason you have stumbled across our blog and have not met us in person, you might think that the title is referring to a child. Actually, in a way Nala is our child, but she is quite a bit bigger and crazier than any human child would be at one year. Nala is our black lab who just turned one yesterday, March 7^th.

With this, I guess we need to stop calling her ‘puppy’ and move her to the adult food. I must admit that she still is very much a puppy at heart.

Nala requires constant attention (I am sure that is has nothing to do with the fact that we have spoiled our cute dog). We just spent an hour playing with her, but she is still whining that she wants to play even more.

I know it seems that we only write about Nala, so next time we will write about something else…I promise.

Nala is getting ready for her first Halloween. She decided that she would look best as a witch, although mommy was very tempted to go with the princess costume. Nala is super excited about meeting all of the children that get bussed into our subdivision on October 31^st. Check her out below!

Nala and Lizzie had another great play date. This time it was Nala’s domain –the lake! It took Lizzie quite a while to get acclimated to the water, but eventually she took the plunge and learned to swim (Kyle actually had to get in the water with her).

Today, Nala is walking around like she is 90 years old. No, it’s not because of any medical condition, instead it is because she found a new friend. Yesterday we had a “doggie play date” with our friends Kyle and Jessica and their dog, Lizzie. Nala hadn’t been around many other dogs (besides Lucky) in her short life, but that changed yesterday. They had a blast. We were able to let them off of their leashes and they played for an hour.

However, Lizzie isn’t Nala’s only new friend. Shannon bought a super cool mallard toy for Nala. It sounds exactly like a real duck! Nala loves it.

Nala is a bit better today – but still totally exhausted (we’re not complaining). Hope that all of you are doing well!

It’s been a while since we’ve shown some pictures of Nala, so here we go:

Nala has had a rough couple of days. She was spayed last week, and she made it through fine. However, we have had to keep her fairly inactive over the last few days. Hopefully, she will be back to normal soon. The doctor told us to not let her run, jump, eat too much,… (I would like to see her control a puppy like that, lol). By the way, the pic is of Nala in her protective collar eating her favorite treat, peanut butter.

It amazes me how some perfectly sweet and kind dogs can display another side on occasion that makes you want to strangle them. Such was the case yesterday – while on our way back from Tennessee (btw, we made it back safely). Nala had done so well on the trip yesterday until we stopped a few hours from home. Let me precede this by saying that Nala is always a bit weird about not wanting to pee in strange places – so, on trips it takes a while to convince her to go. We stopped at a gas station in the bustling metropolis of Metter, Georgia. We commenced to walking her for about 20 minutes – and she would not use the bathroom. Finally, we decided that she didn’t need to go (we don’t give her much to drink on trips). As soon as we put her back in the truck – she started to pee (also keep in mind that she peed in the truck on the way to Tennessee also – and that we had a much longer trip to Virginia a few weeks ago – and she did fine).

As if that wasn’t enough – I was awakened at 3am to discover that she had peed in her crate also. Fun Fun.

Nala seemed to have a pretty good time at the kennel. However, she grew 6 pounds during our vacation. She has gotten a bit bigger, and she is just as hyper. Hope that you guys enjoy the pics and video (which is of us trying to teach her to roll over).
